Where she started
Maya had a lot of missing assignments and her grades didn’t show how smart she is. School stressed her out, and that stress often came home with her.
Her first check in showed that she wasn’t lazy, and she wasn’t short on ability. She already liked flashcards, concept maps, and practice problems, which are some of the best ways to study. But she had no plan before sitting down, no routine, and no regular place to work. She rated her planning 1 out of 5, and she said she’d rather figure things out alone than admit she was confused. When asked whether she could learn hard material if she put in the work, she answered 1 out of 5.
What we worked on
-
A set study routine and study spot
So she didn’t have to figure out how to start every night.
-
Quizzing herself and spreading out her studying
She already knew these worked, but she needed a simple plan to actually do them.
-
Writing down one thing she understood after every session
So she had real proof that she was learning.
What changed
She took the same check in at the start and again 90 days later. Every area went up, and three of them started in the lowest range. By the end, none of them were there.

What she told her mom this fall
- A lot easier to understand topics in class
- Easier to connect concepts
- Target studying has been helpful
- Doing better tracking priorities
- Fewer missing assignments
“We all seem to feel less stressed and anxious and I think our relationships have improved as a result.”
Her mom also told us that Maya is handling school, sports, activities, and friends with ease. She had also just gotten her first A ever on a high school math test.
What she’s still working on
Not everything is fixed yet, and some things take longer to change.
Bouncing back after a bad grade is still hard for her, and she rated it 2 out of 5. Memory and study strategies went up, but they are still her lowest area, so that is where we are focusing next.
Nuance
We changed her name to protect her privacy.
This is one student, and your child’s results may be different. We also don’t promise grades.
These scores are her own ratings and not her grades. We also updated the check in between the two rounds, so some of the change could come from that, and not only from her.
Every family gets a check in at the start and a plan built from it, and then a second check in at the end that shows what improved and what didn’t.
